The Cold, Hard Facts About Trucking Accidents

Chances are you spend a majority of your time sitting in your car as you run the errands given by life’s responsibilities. Your trusted vehicle lets you drop the kids off at school, takes you to your job and everywhere in between at any given moment. The truth is, driving is a part of everyday life but it’s one that is closely followed by car accidents thatinjure and claim people’s lives.

Some of the deadliest road accidents involve big trucks and 18 wheelers. In 2012 alone, there were a total of 317,000 crashes involving large trucks in the nation, with 3,921 fatalities and 104,000 injuries claimed. Texas roads are not exempt from these dangerous accidents and the alarming numbers prove it.

Large Truck Accidents in Texas

Our state’s size and booming economy provide the trucking industry a big playground to trade goods and services, but even developing safety regulations can’t prevent accidents from happening. In 2012, Texas roads were witness to 26,403 crashes involving large vehicles. That is 8% of the nation’s total and although the number may seem small, it’s a big fraction of accidents when you take into consideration the nation’s size and vehicular activity.

The number of injuries in the state peaked at 5,287 and the deaths claimed by large truck accidents accumulated to 525. These statistics are serious to worry about and become even more alarming when you look at what goes on in your neck of the woods.

Accidents in Your Own Backyard

Statistics from the Texas Department of Transportation show that Travis County ranks sixth in the total amount of large truck crashes amongst Texas counties. In 2012, the county saw a total of 603 crashes, 273 of them involving serious injuries and 10 of them moving into the fatal category. While regulations and new laws have been in the works to make trucking safer for everyone, the area’s rapid growth could see crashes increasing in the years to come.

A total of 110 people move into Austin every day. This rate has the city flirting with the 2 million population mark that may have people worrying about more than just living costs and space. The city’s fast growth can lead to huge amounts of traffic that can prove to be dangerous for every driver on the road. The best thing to do is make sure you have professional legal advice at your side in case of an accident.
